TRANSLATIONS
This piece explores the question, how can we better understand and visualize emotional data?
Participants were asked to put on a piece of clothing that is someone else's, while listening to the owners thoughts through a recording. They then had to translate this feeling by moving their body in the piece of clothing. Some results are shown below.
A Pair of Black Overalls
The video to the right plays audio of the owners thoughts about her black overalls worn in the shop. The visuals are six different people physically translating these words into their own understanding, while wearing these overalls.
A Green Shirt
The video to the right plays audio of the owners thoughts about his special green shirt worn on a motorcycle trip with his father. The visuals are six different people physically translating his words into their own understanding, while wearing this special green shirt.
Process
Pictured to the right are participants wearing a piece of clothing that does not belong to them. They listen to the recording of the owners voice. They listen to the recording twice. Once while sitting, focused on the recording. The second time, participants must stand and move accordingly, trying to translate these thoughts into their own, and then, into actions.
Visuals
Hand moments were tracked and edited to produce a simple visual translation of what that feeling "looks" like. Examples of videos at the top of the page.
